Whistler Irish Whiskey

The Cooney family makes Whistler Irish Whiskey at Boann Distillery in the beautiful and mystical Boyne Valley. The Distillery is named for the Irish Goddess, Boann. Legend has it that it was She who created the River Boyne. Boann was the wife of Nechtan, a very powerful figure. He ruled over vast amounts of land, including the ancient Well of Segais. It is said 9 sacred hazels of wisdom surround the well, all blooming and fruiting at the same time. The legend goes that anyone who ate these hazelnuts would be granted great knowledge and a very poetic tongue.

Boann's husband forbade her to go near the well, so one day she went for a walk with her Irish wolfhound and decided to challenge the power of the well by walking around it counterclockwise, this was considered very unlucky... The waters surged up, flooded the land, and created the River Boyne. Boann was swept away in the floodwaters and lost her life.

The River Boyne, though a short course, remains of huge historical, archaeological, and mythical importance deeply ingrained in Irish Culture.

The Whistler Irish Whiskey is named after Pat and James Cooney's love of the lost art of whistling. They are both avid whistlers and can often be found performing for family and friends.
