Redbreast 12, 15, and 21

Redbreast is the largest selling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey in the world and we are thrilled to offer it in different age ranges, Redbreast 12 year old, Redbreast 15 year old, and Redbreast 21 year old. It is considered the ultimate expression of the traditional Irish Spirit.   It all began when W & A Gilbey was founded in 1857 in London as wine importers and distillers.  They were so successful that within a couple of years they had branches in Dublin, Belfast, and Edinburgh. In 1866, they moved their new offices to Dublin and became whiskey bonders.

They had their own patented bottle cases which could be easily stacked, state of the art machines to wash their bottles, and their own patented capsule seal which replaced a wax seal. Gilbey's sold all their wine and spirits directly to consumers under their own brand, which was very distinctive.

They were famous for their wines, but by 1874 their spirits were becoming a greater part of their business. They started with Gilbey's Castle Whiskey and held the largest stock of Irish Whiskey outside of the distilleries themselves, at this time. Gilbey's exclusively marketed John Jameson and Son's 'sole make' pure and unblended whiskey in 1887.

Gilbey's imported Sherry and had lots of empty Sherry Casks available so the Jameson Whiskey was put into the Sherry Casks and stored in the Gilbey's vaults.  Redbreast 12 year old made its appearance in 1912 and is named for Robin Redbreast because the chairman of the board was an avid bird fancier.

In 1986 Gilbey's sold the brand to Irish distillers.  It was absent from the market for nearly 10 years before being relaunched in 1991.
